VI. Making The Shot
Actual experiments with re-constructed, aboriginal bows and
arrows, atlatals and butchering tools, on modern bison and elk,
provide some indications about the use and effectiveness of stone
tools. These experiments have left numerous questions about the
effectiveness of the atlatl in terms of effective penetration. We
have also found that classifying projectile points in terms of size
to indicate weaponry type (large projectile points being used on
atlatl shafts v.s. smaller points being used on bow and arrow shafts)
may be more complex than metric classifications suggest.
